Arson Attack Leaves Hailsham Town FC Reeling from Damage

In the wake of a devastating arson attack on Hailsham Town Football Club, the community unites to restore its cherished hub, reflecting the heart and resilience of grassroots football amidst destruction and despair.
The football community in Hailsham has been deeply affected by a willful act of arson, leading the cherished local club to assess the extent of destruction and sorrow. Hailsham Town Football Club, a fundamental element of local pride and sporting culture, became the victim of a fire on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, which inflicted an estimated £35,000 worth of damage to its recreation ground located on Western Road.
The fire, which was allegedly set deliberately, began around 7 PM close to the main stand of the club, with the conifer hedges acting as the initial source of fuel. The flames rapidly escalated, resulting in considerable structural and environmental destruction.
The East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly, sending two fire engines from Eastbourne to the location of the blaze. The firefighters utilized hose reel jets to manage the flames, but the consequences were evident—a beloved community center left battered by pointless destruction.
"At 7:10 PM, we received reports of a fire involving hedges at the recreation ground located on Western Road in Hailsham," a spokesperson from the fire service reported. "This incident is currently being investigated as a potential act of deliberate ignition, and police investigations are underway."
Local authorities are conducting an active investigation into the incident, urging the community to come forward with any information that may help identify the culprits. PC Luke Ceschin highlighted the risks associated with the event, remarking on the fortunate circumstance that no injuries occurred.
"We suspect that several individuals were present in the vicinity when the fire ignited," stated PC Ceschin. "If anyone possesses any information or recordings of the event—including dash cam footage from passing vehicles—please reach out to us online or call 101, referencing serial number 1235 of 12/11."
